Have you ever wanted to get your own way no matter what the cost, only to find out that you paid a high price for nothing? Have you ever cheated yourself? Many of us have cheated ourselves many times trying to please ourselves. Things aren't always what they seem. When we finally get our way, it often isn't what we wanted at all! A bitter pill!
It is really hard to accept the idea that someone else knows what is good for us even better than we do. It is hard to trust someone else's judgment over our own. For most of us, the Christian life is a constant struggle to "let go and let God" do His thing instead of our own. We say, "I know Your Word says it this way, Lord, but I want ------- ."
The Apostle Paul had the same problem. Even a person like Paul with all of his learning and all of his experience, had to resist the desire to do it his own way. Paul got help. So can you and me.
