Child abuse! Children are burned, beaten, and abandoned by their parents. Why does this happen? Because parents lose their self-control. Like every other sin, there is no excuse for it. Even though we may understand how it can happen, it cannot be tolerated. The Bible says, "Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." The Bible also says, "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him." Children are gifts from God to be loved and cared for. Train up a child in Jesus Christ and when he/she is old, he/she will not forget his/her Savior's love. When both parents and children build their lives around Christ, then they will also grow in loving respect for each other. When we recognize our God-given responsibilities both as parents and children, and then also seek to carry them out, then happiness follows instead of child abuse and court cases, both of which mocks our loving God. The greatest child abuse of all is this: to deprive your child of God's love in Christ Jesus.
